"Charlie has lived and breathed XBRL since the late
1990s and truly deserves this recognition," commented
Sunir Kapoor, UBmatrix President and CEO. "The endorsement
the AICPA award represents is noteworthy, both in terms
of Charlie's efforts, and to XBRL as a game-changing
technology. The accounting profession – indeed business
reporting in general – will never be the same."
During his acceptance speech, Mr. Hoffman quickly gave
credit to the many others whose work was critical to
the current success of XBRL. "People call me ‘the father
of XBRL', but I like to refer to myself as the guy who
did the obvious. I was in the right place at the right
time, with the right set of skills." He thanked many
individuals by name as well as the support received
from UBmatrix and investors in the XBRL technology market
that have made commercialization of XBRL technology
possible.
Mr. Hoffman was co-editor of the first XBRL taxonomy
and a significant contributor to the XBRL 2.1 specification.
He has continued to play a major role in crafting the
taxonomy for financial reporting under International
Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS-GP). He also continues
to lead the path forward as a member of the XBRL International
Specification and Domain working groups, as co-author
