UBmatrix Host of Webinar Featuring the SEC's Corey
Booth
US Securities and Exchange Commission's IT Head To
Discuss XBRL Adoption and More at June 16 Online Conference
Madrid, Kirkland June 16, 2006 - UBmatrix™, a leading
provider of software and services leveraging the global
XBRL standard, is sponsoring a webinar today on XBRL
(eXtensible Business Reporting Language), featuring
R. Corey Booth, Chief Information Officer and Director,
Office of Information Technology, U.S. Securities and
Exchange Commission.
Among the topics Booth will discuss are the SEC's efforts
to encourage adoption of XBRL and what adoption will
mean for financial reporting and decision-making.
"UBmatrix is please to be sponsoring this online
seminar with Mr. Booth. The SEC has been a strong proponent
of XBRL and has done much to increase awareness in both
public and private companies," commented Darren
Peterson, Director of Marketing at UBmatrix. "Still,
there is an appetite for more information by those considering
use of XBRL in the EDGAR filing process, and even more
about how companies can benefit from it internally.
We hope to answer some of those questions today."
The SEC announced in March that 17 companies had joined
the pilot program to use interactive data in their financial
statement filings. Those companies will help the agency
explore how Internet-based reporting can improve the
financial reporting process for investors, intermediaries,
the SEC and the companies themselves.
Speaking at the 13th XBRL International Conference
in Madrid, Spain, on May 16, 2006, Booth said that the
SEC had been explicitly involved in XBRL-related work
for over a year, and that many there are "excited
about what we typically call interactive data -- that
is, improving corporate reporting through technology."
Booth praised the "potential benefits" of
XBRL, including "greater transparency of financial
information, reduced costs for investors and analysts,
potentially even deeper coverage of mid-cap companies
by analysts, and ultimately more efficient markets."
Booth was named the SEC's Chief Information Officer
in January 2004. Previously, he had served as the Associate
Principal of McKinsey and Company's Business Technology
Office in Chicago. As a leader of that consulting practice,
Booth focused on information technology, working with
a variety of large corporate IT organizations, primarily
wisthin the financial services industry.
UBmatrix will host a workshop on use of XBRL within
the enterprise following the keynote presentation.
